2017 Dromore 10K & 5K Road Race Launched

The annual Dromore Road Race is now a firm fixture in the June road racing calendar and the ninth edition takes place on Saturday 24th June (12 noon) with a 10K, 5K and 5K walk all on offer.

The event has retained its long running sponsor, McDermott’s Pharmacy, Main Street Dromore and the committee are urging all local runners to get their online entries in before the closing date of June 16th. The route takes in the picturesque ‘Riverside Walk’ with a start and finish in the centre of the town.

Local Dromore man Conor Maguire has had a stellar 2017 and seems to be improving with every outing- will we see our first local winner in 2017? Maguire took over 2 minutes off his half marathon PB recently in the Strabane/Lifford Half Marathon while also clocked 28.47 in the Beragh 5, 59.52 in the Bundoran 10 mile and silver in the Killian Doherty 10K in 36.54.

As always, if Omagh Harrier’s stalwart Stephen Duncan turns up it would be hard to see past his unbeaten record of wins and would be a clear favourite having won the Killyclogher 10K in May in 32.56. Last year’s winner Martin Cox (Derry Track Club) and Stephen Cassidy of Irvinestown could also be in the mix.

Pauline McGurran (Sperrin Harriers) has clocked up a number of wins in the last few months including the Blackwater 5 Mile and the Cormac Run. Karen Barr (Enniskillen), Donna Evans (Clones AC) and Mairead McCann (Dromore) could also be contenders.

The 5K top spots over the last few years are usually dominated by underage athletes from Omagh Harriers and the 5K Walk is also well supported with high participation from the Dromore Walking and Keep Active groups.

Numbers and late entry will be available at Dromore Sports Centre on Fri 23rd (6:30-8pm) & Sat 24th June (10am - 11.30am). Veteran prizes for the 10K race for male and female runners will be in the O35, O45, O55 & O65 categories.
