The annual Dromore Road Race, sponsored by McDermott’s Pharmacy took place on Saturday 28th June with well over 300 entries in the 10K, 5K and 5K Walk events. 2014 saw a revised route for the 10K taking in a new section of the town while still running along the picturesque ‘Riverside Walk’ and a finish through Main Street and cheers from the local supporters.

Omagh Harriers were out in force and Stephen Duncan made a welcome return to battle the new route and put down a marker once again. Having previously won three times (2010-2012), Duncan made it clear from the start he meant business by taking a clear lead well before 5K from 2013 winner and clubmate Paul Barbour. He finished in 33.28 with Barbour in 34.53 and Stephen Morris from City of Lisburn AC in third with 35.57.

The female 10K race turned out to be a competitive one with late entries on the day from eventual winner Patricia O’Hagan (St. Peter’s Lurgan) who finished in 38.46 to add to her list of wins this year in Enniskillen, Beragh and the Les Jones 10K. In second place was stalwart Julie Butler (Omagh Harriers) in 39.53 and Pauline McGurran (Sperrin Harriers) in third in a time of 41.16.

First Dromore runner home was Eddie Molloy; also a key sponsor (Molloy Butchers) finishing in 10th place in 40.38 while Mairead McCann was 4th female and first local in 43.48.

In the 5K it was a clear run for Omagh Harriers taking the top three places, Conor Moore (18.17), Oisin Donnelly (19.03) and Michael Mullin (19.25). First lady in the 5K came from Springwell Running Club, Alexandra Kirk in 21.27 followed by Caelainn McQuaid (Omagh Harriers) 21.49 and Aine Flannagan (Clones AC) in third in 24.25.

There was a great atmosphere on the day as the Tour of Omagh cycle race passed through and members from the local Chernobyl Children’s Appeal joined the did a bed push along the 5K route. 80 participants took part in the 5K Walk.
